Applying A Serbian Tourist Visa for Malaysian!

Hi all, I am writing this post to help people wanting to apply for a Type C visa (tourist Visa) to Serbia, especially Malaysia passport holders.

I am travelling to Serbia in 2 months time and as a Malaysian, I MUST have a Serbian Visa. I have checked everywhere, as it's a must! And I have just gotten mine! (Yay!)
Whilst looking for information for my VISA application, I found out that Malaysia does NOT have a Serbian Embassy or consulate and the nearest embassy is in Jakarta, Indonesia. (OMG! Headache!!)
And there weren't many information on the internet for Malaysian about applying for Serbian Visa.

Anyhow, I called the Serbian Embassy in Jakarta (Call using IDD it's cheaper- check with your network provider for more info) and consulted on the necessary action needed for my application and went ahead with the instructions.

Hope it's not too complicated.

1. Check whether do you need a VISA or not.
This link will help you determine whether your passport requires a VISA or not. Visa Regime for entering Serbia

2. If you DO require a VISA, here is a checklist of the documents needed to be emailed to the embassy at embjakarta@serbian-embassy.org
  • A scanned copy of your valid passport (passport must be valid at least 90 days from issue date of the visa)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for staying in Serbia - At least 50 euros in your bank account for each day for the period of time that you will be staying. Just update your bank book and scan the account number and closing balance pages for them.
  • A scanned copy of the application form with the passport sized photo affixed to it.
  • Invitation letter - Ask from your tour company or your relative that invited you over.
  • Proof of Itinerary - Can be obtained from your tour company.
  • Travel insurance policy - Just scan it.
  • Proof of flight reservation - Just scan your air tickets. It doesn't matter where you fly into or leave, it's just to ensure that the said tourist will leave Serbia.
  • Proof of payment for VISA application and DHL courier services. - For myself, I did a 92 euros Telegraphic Transfer (TT) and scanned the receipt to them. Your bank will charge for service fee, which can be quite costly. The VISA application fee would be 62 euros and 30 euros for DHL services for the EMBASSY TO SEND BACK TO YOU!
For more info on payment, click on this link
3. Once you've emailed all the documents to them, wait for them to respond. If it takes more than 3 days to reply the email, give them a call at + 6221 / 314-35-60, 314-37-20

4. Once your VISA is granted, the embassy will inform you and request for you to send your passport to them via DHL at your own cost. (The 30 euros that you have TT  does not include this). Just go to any DHL service center and send to them, and I paid MYR 95.00 to send to Jakarta.
For the embassy's address, click here. Regarding the safety of your passport, I cannot guarantee it, but in my experience DHL is quite reliable.
It would be great for you to email the airway bill to the embassy, stating that you have sent to them. Also track your passport via the DHL website, they give you real time results.

5. Once the embassy has received, stamped and sent out the passport back to you, they would inform you and attach the airway bill for you to track your passport.

6. Your passport has been stamped and safely returned to you! Congratulations, you are on your way to Serbia.

  1. Hi Abigail,

    I'm planning my 2016 Europe trip and considering of doing Belgrade as well, provided if I could get a visa. I do have a few questions, which I hope you don't mind answering to the extend of your knowledge;

    1) If I'm flying to Frankfurt/ Rome and entering Serbia by train. Just providing my train ticket leaving Serbia, is it permissible?

    2) I'm travelling on my own, and doesn't have an invitation, is it acceptable by their authorities.

    3) I'm not with any tour and is it alright if I just provide my hostel booking and my train ticket?

I hope you could answer as best as you can, regarding the said questions. Euros 90 is kinda steep for a visa application, seeing as how our currency fares now, but I guess it really pays off as I heard from friends that it's dirt cheap, even cheaper than Budapest. ; )

    Looking forward to your reply.
